Arsenal are being linked with a move to sign Chelsea’s Raheem Sterling after missing out on Mykhailo Mudryk to their London rivals.
Mikel Arteta had made Mudryk his top January transfer target, and Arsenal appeared to be favourites to sign him, but Chelsea swooped in and signed the Shakhtar Donetsk winger for £88 million.
The Gunners are still interested in signing a wide forward this month as Arteta looks to improve his options in the final third, and Fijaches is reporting that Sterling has emerged as a target for Arsenal.
Sterling joined Chelsea in a £47.5 million deal from Manchester City last summer, but he has struggled to make an impact, with only four league goals in 15 games.
He had 131 goals in seven seasons at City, where he won four Premier League titles among other major accolades.
The 27-year-old is now facing increased competition for a place in Chelsea’s starting lineup from Mudryk, and the Spanish publication claims Arsenal may offer Sterling a transfer.
Arsenal were reportedly interested in signing the England international last summer and could renew their interest as they look to strengthen their title challenge.
Arteta previously worked with Sterling at Man City under Pep Guardiola, and the Spaniard has since enticed Sterling’s former teammates, Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko, to join him at the Emirates.
