Despite the disappointment of Saturday’s FA Cup final loss, Manchester United can look back on what was generally a successful season under Erik ten Hag, who led the team to Carabao Cup victory and Champions League qualification in just his first season in charge.
The addition of the former Ajax manager appears to have benefited the United players, with Marcus Rashford in particular appearing revitalised after scoring a career-high 30 goals across all competitions, up from just five goals the season prior.
Alejandro Garnacho, a teenage winger, has been another significant success story for the 53-year-old. The young showman has had a real breakout season, scoring five goals and dishing out five assists in 34 appearances on all fronts.
The 18-year-old initially attracted attention after helping the club win the FA Youth Cup in the 2021–2022 season, scoring twice in the championship victory at Old Trafford. Since then, he has overcome early concerns about his attitude to become an essential member of the Red Devils squad, particularly being hailed as a “game changer” off the bench by journalist Samuel Luckhurst.
What is the present value of Garnacho?
Due to his early promise, it has become clear how inexpensive it was to sign the Argentina international from Atletico Madrid back in 2020. According to transfer expert Dean Jones, the starlet, who was born in Madrid, may now be worth as much as £50 million.
In an interview with Football Fancast, the dependable source responded to a question about the wide receiver’s current worth by saying:
“You simply need to compare to what players in that position are worth. As soon as you start playing for Man United’s first team and receive playing time, you instantly have a value of £50 million. There isn’t really any debate regarding that.
Garnacho will therefore already be in that group. So how far can he climb? That is the query.

Jones made reference to the fact that it is still unclear whether the club legend Paul Scholes described the player as “dangerous” but it is obvious that the 5 foot 11 ace is already being tipped for big things despite his relative youth.
Mario Kempes, a legend in Argentina, has praised the “personality” of the young speedster and even said that Garnacho “reminds him of [Kylian] Mbappe.”
The fact that the United star is already having an impact at such a young age is a testament to his talent, especially in light of the fact that Mbappe, who has scored 239 goals in his club career, made his Monaco debut in 2015 at the age of just 16.
Garnacho, 24, has demonstrated his ability to rise to the occasion somewhat like the Frenchman, who scored a hat-trick in last year’s World Cup final. He scored against Leeds United at Elland Road and also made an assist against Manchester City in January.
Richard Martin of GOAL says the exciting prospect, who ‘looked like United’s only hope’ in the second half of the recent match against City at Wembley, showed no signs of nerves even after entering the fray late.
Just a year after his FA Youth Cup triumphs, the young player is already making a difference in the first team, which makes the £50 million price tag seem more than justified.
