Man Utd will have to compete with Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain for the signing of Sergej Milinkovic-Savic from Lazio this summer.
The 27-year-old Serbian star, who is under contract with Lazio until 2024, has previously been linked with Man Utd, but a move never materialized.
However, his desire to leave the Stadio Olimpico this summer is said to be motivated by Lazio failing to qualify for the Champions League this season.
So according to Italian media Calciomercato, Lazio will seek a fee in the region of €80 million (£68 million) for their top midfielder.
As a result, the Serie A club is open to European offers because they are concerned that Italian clubs will be unable to meet their demands.
Lazio will not be among the suitors, as Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Paris Saint-Germain are rumored to be interested in signing the 27-year-old this summer.
Man Utd are interested in signing Milinkovic-Savic, who has 11 goals and 11 assists in 36 Serie A games this season.
Milinkovic-Savic also has assisted Lazio almost certainly finish fifth in Italy’s top flight this season.
As a result, Milinkovic-Savic might be one of Erik ten Hag’s first signings after succeeding Ralf Rangnick this summer.
During the transfer window, the incoming manager is expected to look to rebuild Manchester United’s squad.
He is said to have prioritized the recruitment of a creative and holding midfielder, a striker, and a central defender.
Man United’s interest in Milinkovic-Savic has reportedly increased this summer as a result of Nemanja Matic’s departure.
Furthermore, the Red Devils will be looking to replace Paul Pogba, who looks set to leave Old Trafford this summer.
In the meantime, Lazio have been keen to keep hold of their star midfielder, who joined from Genk in 2015.
Lazio president Claudio Lolito did, however, admit that the club would be willing to sell the 27-year-old if ‘an significant proposal from a top quality club’ was presented.
As a result, Milinkovic-tenure Savic’s at the Stadio Olimpico could very well come to an end after seven seasons.
Milinkovic-Savic previously praised Sarri’s impact on his season when answered about his future at Lazio.
‘Under Sarri, I’ve improved. I’ve scored 11 goals and assisted on 11 others, so that’s been the greatest season of my career. ‘We need a few more players next season to compete for a place in the Champions League,’ the Serbian star told Sky Italia.
