Arsenal attacker Gabriel Martinelli has admitted that facing Alisson Becker is a significant challenge.
Despite the inconsistencies of other members of Jurgen Klopp’s squad, the Brazilian goalkeeper has been in outstanding form this season, as evidenced by three impressive saves to keep the Saints at bay on Saturday afternoon.
Since arriving at Anfield in the summer of 2018, the 30-year-old has shown his class between the posts and helped solve one of Klopp’s major positional issues, having had issues with both Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius.
Alisson is now widely regarded as one of the best keepers in Europe, if not the best, and will be his country’s starting shot-stopper at the upcoming World Cup.
Martinelli scored against Liverpool’s No.1 in a 3-2 win for Arsenal in October, but he’ll be glad to have him on his side in Qatar. Arsenal’s star, speaking to Sky Sports, described what it’s like to face Alisson: “He’s fantastic. When I last went to the national team, we were playing against Japan and South Korea, and I remember coming one-on-one with him and it was so difficult because he’s so big.”
