Mikel Arteta wants to bring in a couple of new players for Arsenal during the January transfer window, as the club prepares for the most important few months in its history.

The club is still working on a deal to sign Ukrainian winger Mykhaylo Mudryk, while Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix is being considered for a loan move, though the €21 million (£18.6 million) price tag could be a stumbling block for Arteta.

The North London club has recently been linked with Napoli winger Hirving Lozano, but they will face competition from fellow Premier League club Newcastle United.

With only 18 months left on his current contract, a move for Lozano could be affordable, and he could be an ideal replacement for Felix.

Felix as an alternative?

Lozano has only scored seven goals this season, and the 63-cap Mexico international may see a move to the Premier League as an opportunity to replicate his form from previous seasons.

The right winger scored 20 and 12 goals in the 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 seasons, respectively, and despite his numbers dropping this season, there is still a case to be made that he could be a solid addition if any potential Felix move falls through.

In league matches this season, the 27-year-old has only one fewer goal contribution than Felix while taking more shots (26 to 25), generating more shot-creating actions (32 to 26), having a higher dribble success rate (44.4% to 26.1%), and delivering more crosses into the opposition box (29 to eight).

These statistics show that Lozano is still performing at a high level, despite not being as effective at scoring as in previous seasons, and his ability to provide an excellent attacking threat from a wide area could be crucial for Arteta.
