As one of their transfer targets appears to want to join Old Trafford this summer in order to win trophies, Manchester United may be in for a big boost.
What’s new with Harry Kane moving to Manchester United?
Football Transfers reports that Tottenham striker Harry Kane looks to want to join the Red Devils so he can begin contending for championships.
Kane is the “preferred option” in Erik ten Hag’s quest for a new striker, according to a tweet from journalist Graeme Bailey a few weeks ago. Whether Spurs want to make a deal this summer is still up in the air, though.
If there were to be any prospective transfers, the Englishman could cost at least £100 million, and if any side could pay this price, it would be United.
In the coming summer, might Harry Kane join Manchester United?
Nothing can be ruled out, especially since Spurs’ trophy drought of 15 years appears to be continuing based on their performance in the previous season, and considering that Kane is rapidly reaching the age of 30, he will undoubtedly be wanting to add some silverware to compliment his playing abilities.
United scored just 58 Premier League goals last season, the fewest of any team in the top half of the league (only Aston Villa scored less). Ten Hag is in serious need of a world-class forward who can elevate his squad. Because United relied on Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes to score the majority of their goals, scoring 30 and 14 respectively, and because Anthony Martial only scored six league goals (nine in all competitions), it is obvious that they need to replace the Frenchman.
Kane, hailed as “incredible” by Spurs coach Ryan Mason, is among the best forwards in Europe, ranking in the top 10% across Europe’s top five leagues for goals, shot-creating actions, and progressive passes over the past year. This indicates that Kane not only poses a significant threat in front of goal, but also that he is willing to move the ball into key attacking areas as often as possible.
When compared to Martial, who over the same time span in Europe’s top five leagues ranks in the top 23% for goals, top 37% for shot-creating actions, and top 13% for progressive passes, Kane would unquestionably be a significant improvement.
Harry Kane of Tottenham Hotspur enjoys his first goal.
The fact that the Englishman led his respective teams in overall rating, goals and assists, and shots on target per game (according to Sofascore), while the United striker could only finish as the team’s 17th-best player while ranking fifth in goals & assists and fourth in shots on goal per game, shows how important Kane is to his team while Martial isn’t quite as effective.
Given Kane’s talent, Ten Hag should make no hesitations about signing him this summer. If they want to compete with Manchester City and Arsenal seriously the following season, getting one of the most deadly attackers of his generation to Old Trafford would greatly increase their chances of winning the league.
