According to Football Transfers, Chelsea is reportedly interested in acquiring Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembele this summer.
According to the online news source, Mauricio Pochettino respects the 26-year-old and is thinking about making a move to bolster his attack. Despite the arrivals of Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku this summer, Chelsea still needs more help in the final third.
Barca and Dembele are currently engaged in a contract extension negotiation. He only has one year left on his current contract and hasn’t demonstrated any desire to move to the Premier League from Camp Nou.
Dembele joined Barcelona in 2017 after leaving Bundesliga team Borussia Dortmund, but has struggled with injuries and a drop in performance. The 185 games the France international has played in have resulted in 40 goals and 43 assists across all competitions.
He appeared in 35 games for Barcelona last season, contributing to 17 goals as they won the La Liga championship. He has won three La Liga championships, two Copa del Rey championships, and two Supercopa de Espaa championships while playing for Barcelona under Xavi.
He made 50 appearances for Dortmund, where he scored 10 goals and recorded 22 assists en route to helping them win the 2016–17 DFB-Pokal. Even though he hasn’t lit up La Liga like he did in the Bundesliga with Dortmund, he continues to dazzle whenever he dons a Barcelona jersey.
excellent signing
The France team that won the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia included Dembele. He was instrumental in helping Didier Deschamps’ team reach the final in Qatar last year, where they fell to Argentina in a penalty shootout.
The versatile forward would be a great addition to Chelsea, who lack squad depth after the extensive summer clearout. He has a tonne of experience.
Dembele is reportedly a part of Xavi’s plans for the upcoming season, but Chelsea reportedly offers the Frenchman a lucrative contract to entice him to West London. Since he has a £43 million (€50 million) release clause this summer, there is no need to haggle with Barca over a price.
Following the departure of Mason Mount, Mateo Kovacic, Kai Havertz, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, and N’Golo Kanté, the Blues are also focused on signing midfielders, so we will have to wait and see how this transfer progresses over the next week.
