According to The Telegraph, Man United star Cristiano Ronaldo is allowed to depart the club during the January transfer window if a satisfactory offer comes in.
The Portugueseman was determined to leave the Red Devils earlier this summer because he wanted to play in the Champions League for the 20th consecutive season.
However, United and manager Erik ten Hag made it clear that he was not for sale, and the 37-year-old received no concrete offers from a Champions League club.
Since then, the £18 million-rated star has made just one Premier League appearance, a 4-0 thrashing at Brentford. Ten Hag is now ready to release him in the New Year.
The Dutch manager recently benched Ronaldo for the 6-3 loss to Manchester City ‘out of respect for his big career,’ and the forward is now hoping for a January exit.
Ten Hag’s preferred option up front has been Marcus Rashford, with Ronaldo serving as the regular back-up. With Anthony Martial’s return, Ronaldo’s position may change.
Martial missed the first few months of the season due to injuries, but he made up for it in the Manchester derby last weekend, scoring two goals off the bench.
Ten Hag could constantly rotate between him and Rashford for the striker’s position if he can avoid injury, leaving Ronaldo fighting for a cameo role in the twilight of his career.
