According to the latest reports, Arsenal is considering a summer move for Hoffenheim star Florian Grillitsch. The Austrian all-around midfielder’s contract expires on June 30 and he is expected to leave the Bundesliga club.
Mikel Arteta wants to improve his options in the middle of the park for the 2022/23 season. The Gunners recently suffered an injury to Ghana international Thomas Partey and have struggled to find a replacement.
The versatility of Florian, who can also play at centre-half if needed, appeals to the Spanish manager. According to the Daily Telegraph, the Die Kraichgauer man is on the Londoners’ summer transfer radar.
However, Leeds United and Newcastle United have expressed an interest in him, and Grillitsch is said to have suitors in La Liga as well.
“I am expecting so, yes,” Mikel said recently when asked if the Emirates Stadium would be busy this summer.
“I think both competitions [the Champions League and the Europa League] require a much larger squad because the number of games you play in both is much larger, so I don’t think [which you qualify for] makes a big difference or changes a lot.”
“If you can afford it and we don’t have to do the turnaround in the squad that we’ve had to do, I want 22 outfield players and three goalkeepers.”
