Barcelona are determined to raise funds by selling long-term Arsenal target Frenkie de Jong in the near future.
Throughout the summer transfer window, De Jong was constantly linked with a move away from the club, with suggestions that Barcelona was desperate to get rid of him.
The Dutchman is highly regarded throughout Europe, but he has failed to make the impact that many had hoped for at the club, and with the Spaniards in financial trouble, they were looking to get his £200,000-a-week wages off the books.
But, despite all of the speculation – despite all of the rumors that they wanted him to leave – De Jong was desperate to stay at Camp Nou and fight for his place in the team – and that seemed to put an end to all speculation.
However, according to Sport, the Camp Nou side still needs to get rid of the Arsenal target target in order to invest in other players, with Gerard Pique and Jordi Alba also set to be released.
That means that when the January transfer window opens in a few months, clubs like Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United will be able to try to sign the midfielder.
In better news for the Gunners, the Spaniards will be so desperate to get rid of De Jong that they may be willing to let him leave for a low fee.
There is clearly a reason why Barcelona wants to get rid of De Jong – perhaps it is simply because they dislike him.
If he does enter the transfer market, there will be many clubs interested because De Jong is still a top-class midfielder who will bring valuable experience to any team he joins.
