Brendan Rodgers, the manager of Leicester City, wants to keep Arsenal target Youri Tielemans at the club in the long term, but understands that the club must come first.
During the January transfer window, Arsenal will look to delve into the transfer kitty and add a few more players to the squad that will add depth to the side – and Tielemans is a player with whom the Gunners have been linked.
He was heavily tipped to leave Leicester but stayed, but with the Belgian still no closer to a new contract, Rodgers has opened up and admitted that Leicester City comes first in their decision over the midfielder.
“It’s not something we’re considering, and it’s not something the club has told us we need to do.” “We don’t want to be offloading our best players,” Rodgers stated.
“There has been no indication or hint that we need to generate money and move him on.” But, of course, they will look into the club’s business side.
“We had several long conversations over the summer. There is no doubt that even a young man as focused and professional as Youri can have an impact.
“However, he has been completely focused. He is unaffected by this. He is a world-class professional who sees the game as I do.
“On the field, he understands what is going on in the game, and all he can do is give his all, and his recent performances have been excellent.”
“We have a number of players who will be out of contract at the end of the season.” My focus has been on working with him to get us out of this situation.
“From my perspective, everything else is not really discussed.”
