If reports from outlets like SPORT and Mundo Deportivo are to be believed, FC Barcelona has already made their first significant acquisition of the summer.
After a 4-2 victory at Espanyol on Sunday, Barca and their supporters are now celebrating their first La Liga championship in four years and their first top-flight victory under head coach Xavi Hernandez. The feat was completed with four matchdays remaining.
But eventually, club president Joan Laporta, his board, and Culers would realise that in order to make new signings and sign new contracts for the upcoming season, they would need to cut €200 million ($216 million) from the wage bill.
Barca will need to sell a number of players, cut salaries, and work within challenging Financial Fair Play limits in order to accomplish this.
On May 2, they already knew they would lose Mateu Alemany, their director of football, who handled matters pertaining to these areas very effectively in 2022.
On this day, it was revealed that Alemany, despite having a contract through 2024, would leave on June 30.
