According to an update from writer Fabrizio Romano, Manchester City and Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic are getting closer to a deal.
Is Kovacic said to be moving to Man City?
The Blues team, which included the 29-year-old, battled mightily in 2022–23 and ultimately placed a dismal 12th in the Premier League. With only 17 starts in the competition, he undoubtedly didn’t rediscover his finest form during the season, despite the fact that injuries occasionally made things worse.
Since Kovacic’s Chelsea contract expires the next year, it is more likely that he will leave the club before the start of the following campaign. When it comes to signing him, Pep Guardiola’s City have emerged as the front-runners as the manager tries to expand his midfield options.
There may be a gap in the park’s centre that has to be addressed going ahead because the in-form Ilkay Gundogan hasn’t yet agreed to an extension at the Etihad, and it appears like the Blues star may be that person.

Are Citizens getting closer to signing Kovacic?
Romano gave an update on City’s pursuit of Kovacic on Twitter, noting that personal terms are now “close” to being settled and that the transfer may take place soon:
“Kovacic and Man City’s personal terms deal is close, as previously disclosed days ago; more will be published next week. Despite rumours, nothing has changed.
The four-time Champions League champion Kovacic might be a really good addition for City this summer. The £100,000-per-week midfielder is someone who could easily fit into Guardiola’s style of play. At 29, he still has a few years remaining at the highest level. This season, he has an 86% pass completion percentage in the Premier League and ranked in the 98th percentile for passes into the final third.
The 93-cap Croatian international was previously deemed “outstanding” by former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel during his time at Stamford Bridge, and he is the kind of player who may succeed even more when surrounded by teammates who are technically compatible with him.
Kovacic might be a terrific alternative who wouldn’t necessarily start every week but be more than capable of stepping in and doing a decent job when called upon. Of course, the goal is that Gundogan also remains put. He spent four years as a player for Real Madrid in the past, which speaks much about his talent.
