Before his recent injury blow, Chelsea was seriously considering re-signing Tammy Abraham from Roma.

The Athletic claims as much.

It’s no secret that the Blues need to add a center-forward to their lineup for the upcoming campaign, but Tammy Abraham won’t be coming back to Stamford Bridge anytime soon.

According to The Athletic, Chelsea was considering re-signing Abraham this summer.

The 25-year-old striker, according to the report, is no longer a factor because of a serious knee injury he sustained in Roma’s final 2022–23 season match.

Abraham was acquired by Roma a few years ago in a deal that has benefited the Serie A team, with the Englishman scoring goals and making an impression in Italy.

According to Sky Sports, he transferred to Rome for £34 million, along with a £68 million buy-back option for Chelsea to exercise in the summer of 2023.

Mauricio Pochettino’s team won’t attempt to sign the injured attacker, though.

Although Abraham is a competent forward who would likely score more goals leading the line than any of our current strikers, he would never be our first choice.

Without the allure of European football the following season, it will be difficult, but Chelsea desperately needs a star striker who can score at least 20 goals per season.
