According to reports, Liverpool has inquired about a deal to bring Tyler Adams back to the Premier League from Leeds United.
Tyler Adams is leaving Leeds, right?
Despite having four years left on his contract, the future of the American international, who only joined Elland Road from RB Leipzig last summer and made a total of 26 appearances in his debut campaign, is already in doubt.
Sam Allardyce’s former team, who were relegated, will probably be forced to sell some of their prized assets during the transfer window. The Whites talisman was not only his side’s top performer overall with a WhoScored match rating of 6.73, which is bound to draw interest.
The 24-year-old has already been linked to teams like Newcastle, Manchester United, and Nottingham Forest, but if this update is to be believed, FSG and Jurgen Klopp are prepared to make a move to sign Adams to Anfield.
Are Adams and Liverpool a match?
TEAMtalk claims that Liverpool has been “checking on his availability” and may soon “join the race” before the 2023–24 season. Adams “told” Leeds already that he wanted to stage a comeback to the top division and that he was “aware” of the admiration he was getting. The Athletic have also stated that they “want” to sell the midfielder for £40 million, according to the Yorkshire club.
Adams is a defensive midfielder, so Liverpool will be aware that he isn’t particularly strong offensively—he didn’t score or assist on any goals during his first season at Leeds—but he excels in that position.
According to FBRef, the YMU Group client ranks in the 99th percentile for tackles and the 97th percentile for blocks among midfielders in the top five European leagues. Jacek Kulig, a talent scout, has referred to him as the “heart and lungs” of a team because of his tireless work ethic and constant desire to get involved.
It would be a no-brainer of a deal to close over the summer if FSG can reduce the asking price for the World Cup participant, who would also add fantastic versatility to Klopp’s squad. The player has played in seven different positions since the beginning of his career, including four in the midfield and even all over the backline, which is a great attribute for the manager to have at his disposal should any unexpected injuries occur.
