Journalist Laurie Whitwell claims that Manchester United has made “contact” with Justin Bijlow at Feyenoord about joining the Premier League.
Justin Bijlow, who is he?
Bijlow, a goalkeeper, currently competes for Arne Slot’s team after graduating from their academy and being promoted to the first team back in 2016. Since then, he has cemented his position as the team’s starting goalkeeper.
The Dutch international’s contract in his native country still has two more years left, but Erik Ten Hag has become interested in the shot-stopper as a result of the international’s recent performances, according to Dutch outlet 1908.
The 25-year-old, according to Voetbal International, would be open to joining, but his club is currently seeking to bind him to a new contract rather than approve his sale.
However, it doesn’t appear as though that stopped an approach from being made at Old Trafford.
Man United is acquiring Bijlow?
Whitwell revealed on Twitter that Man United has contacted Bijlow to find out about his availability for the 2023–24 season. He stated:
“#MUFC contact Justin Bijlow, the goalkeeper for Feyenoord. Dutch champions are extremely hesitant to sell, but United are considering their options, including Andre Onana. Costs will determine the next signing; CF is still the top priority. Rasmus Hojlund’s fee with Atlanta is thought to be excessive.
Since a new contract for David De Gea has still not been reached, Man United may lose him this summer. Should that happen, Ten Hag will obviously need to replace him immediately, and Bijlow may be the ideal candidate after being dubbed “brilliant” by ESPN correspondent Cecilia Lagos.
The World Cup participant, who earns £5k per week, made 25 appearances in the Eredivisie last season and recorded 12 clean sheets, placing him in the 90th percentile of goalkeepers for crosses stopped. As a result, he isn’t afraid to come out of his net and claim the ball to clear the threat from his area.
The 6-foot-2 giant also improved on the manager’s current first-choice goalkeeper with 59 saves from 77 shots on target against him, giving him a success rate of 75.3% compared to De Gea’s 71.1%.
Finally, Ten Hag is already acquainted with Bijlow because he played against him in the Eredivisie while he was with Ajax. The manager could take advantage of this pre-existing relationship to try to lure his goalkeeping target to M16 in the coming weeks and months.
