According to a report, Barcelona is interested in signing Miguel Azeez from Arsenal on a free transfer with a sell-on clause.
According to the Spanish publication SPORT, Barcelona is looking to add Miguel Azeez to their Barcelona Atletic B team.
Currently playing in the third division of Spanish football, Barca B is hoping to complete the free transfer and sell-on clause signing of Azeez.
Azeez’s contract with Arsenal expires in 2024, so the Gunners would have to consent to such a deal.
On the surface, you might assume that Arsenal wouldn’t be all that interested in a free transfer because it wouldn’t bring them any money for the young player they have spent a lot of time and money developing.
However, given Azeez’s recent professional development, Barcelona might be a better choice.
Azeez began the 2021/22 season on loan with Portsmouth, but after only 10 appearances for the League One team, he was called back in January. Azeez then spent the remainder of the season with the Arsenal academy.
Azeez returned to UD Ibiza on loan the previous year, but after 11 appearances, he was once again called back.
The midfielder was once again re-loaned by Arsenal to Wigan Athletic, where he saw action just twice during the second half of the season.
At this point, it appears that Azeez may require a complete restart in order to get back on track.
He might be able to advance if he relocates to Spain and plays in the lower divisions, regaining some of the market value he has lost over the past few seasons.
Arsenal will have to decide whether they want to keep Azeez around for the final year of his contract or whether selling the player for a fee now will likely be more profitable in the long run.
