Benjamin Pavard, a defender for Bayern Munich, has reportedly been the subject of negotiations with Manchester United.
Man Utd is acquiring a new defender, right?
Mason Mount from Chelsea was the Red Devils’ first notable signing of the window. Erik ten Hag and the Red Devils have been very active so far this summer.
Following David de Gea’s departure, plans are currently being made to find a replacement, with Andre Onana of Inter Milan being the front-runner. With an offer made to Atalanta for Rasmus Hojlund, Ten Hag also seems to be looking for a new striker.
The Red Devils were heavily linked with a move for Kim Min-jae at the back, but he is about to sign with Bayern Munich. Axel Disasi of AS Monaco is another player of interest, and it appears that Pavard is also being watched by Old Trafford in the ongoing defender rumour.
On Friday, Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg posted an update about Pavard’s future on Twitter. He acknowledged that moving to Manchester City, where Pep Guardiola is a fan, is an option, but he added that talks have also been held with Man United and Juventus.
“News Pavard: Yes, Guardiola likes him and his versatility a lot, so Man City is a serious option for him!
However, Pavard has more specific options because he is now adamant about leaving Bayern. Man Utd: Discussions took place… Juventus, too. Managers at FC Bayern hope for a proposal soon.
Benjmain Pavard, who is he?
France international Pavard was a member of the team that defeated Russia to win the World Cup in 2018.
The 27-year-old has made 162 appearances for Bayern in four years and has contributed to 24 goals while playing as either a right-back or a center-back. Pavard previously worked for Lille and Stuttgart prior to his time in Munich.
When he says he is a better and more complete right-back than Liverpool’s Trent Alexander Arnold and Paris Saint-Germain’s Archaf Hakimi, Pavard is also not lacking in confidence.
“I play the central defence position. This has always been my favourite place to be and where I feel most at ease. The best place for me to be right now is here. In this role, I believe my strengths are more apparent.
“If the great coaches chose to position me on the right side, it means they have faith in my skills. I’ve always been a holder for Deschamps. It’s not because of my gorgeous eyes or my hair that he trusts me. He’s aware of my strengths. After that, I need to improve in a few key areas: I need to take more risks and initiative. I know this and I work on it every day.
“A good defence comes first for a defender. Although Hakimi, Arnold, may appear more attractive than Pavard on paper, I believe I am more complete defensively.
The full-back may be on the move to the Premier League, and it will be interesting to see which part of Manchester he joins should a move to England gain momentum.
