Man Utd are reportedly set to hold contract talks with Marcus Rashford, according to The Sun, though Erik ten Hag has remained coy, implying that there is no rush to tie the player down to a new contract.
During his pre-match press conference before United’s UEFA Europa League defeat on Thursday, ten Hag was asked about the forward’s contract situation, to which he replied (via Tribal Football):
“I don’t believe he’s out of contract – United have control over the situation.”
“I see a content Marcus Rashford.” I see some phases in his game that we could improve, and we’ve worked really hard with him on different aspects over the last two and a half months. He really likes it and wants to incorporate it into the pitch.”
Ten Hag’s comments about the player’s contract length are correct; Rashford’s current deal expires in the summer, but the club has the option to extend the academy product’s stay by another 12 months.
If the 12-month extension is activated, United can essentially take their time with negotiations. This is very likely to be the case. The club did the same with Paul Pogba, though the Frenchman eventually left.
Rashford’s performances have certainly improved recently. After a poor start to the season and a disastrous previous campaign, the England international has three goals in his last three matches and five overall goal contributions.
