Liverpool were interested in signing Marco Asensio during the summer transfer window, but the Spanish international ended up staying with Real Madrid.

Earlier this month, AS reported that the Reds moved last month to lure the former Mallorca mercenary, but the lack of decent propositions prevented the player from leaving.

More recently, another Spanish source in the form of Sport revealed that Liverpool could make an offer to permanently sign the playmaker in January.

Asensio has won all the major trophies with the Blancos, but he wanted to leave last summer mainly due to lack of regular playing time.

The 26-year-old has often played on the bench under Carlo Ancelotti last season and the situation is even worse this season. In La Liga, the La Roja striker only played 7 minutes (against Celta Vigo). On the other hand, in the Champions League, he played only 10 minutes against Celtic and last night in the second half against RB Leipzig, he played only 26 minutes.

Sport claim that the situation at the Bernabeu is unlikely to change and the player could end up leaving in the winter transfer window.

Liverpool, Arsenal and Milan were all interested and the Catalan source claims the trio could move in with offers to sign Marco Asensio.

Jurgen Klopp needs to improve attacking depth after offloading Mane, Minamino and Origi in the summer transfer window. At the moment there is no one to replace Diaz and Salah on the flanks and the duo have played in every game this season. They would certainly need a rest during the long season ahead of them.

Asensio, who earns around £150,000 a week (Sport), can play effectively on the right flank and even as a central attacking midfielder. Should Klopp sign him to improve the attack at Anfield?
