Joao Gomes is a rising Flamengo star and the midfielder has been heavily linked with Liverpool ever since he confirmed he was open to a move to Anfield.
Last month, Julio Miguel Neto (via Meia Hora) revealed that the player had turned down several contract extension offers with the Brazilian side due to interest from top European clubs.
In a recent interview, the player himself confessed that he would like to play for the Reds and in the Champions League. Gomes explained:
“Playing in the Champions League is my biggest dream in football, mine and my family’s. Liverpool is a team I would love to play for, I have the biggest desire to play [for Liverpool].”
Recently, Julio Miguel Neto claimed that Jurgen Klopp has been watching the 21-year-old game-breaker for some time and Liverpool are preparing a bid to sign him to improve their midfield in the next transfer window. The South American journalist reported that the young man is also interested in Man Utd and Atletico Madrid.
As reported by Meia Hora in August, after the latest rejection of Gomes’ contract, Flamengo is seriously considering selling it if he receives a suitable offer.
As for the asking price, a commission of 300 million Brazilian pounds or 50 million pounds (Diario do Fla) may be required to secure his signature.
The Brazilian Under 20 player is primarily a defensive midfielder. Last season he played 51 games in all competitions for Flamengo, scoring 2 goals and providing 2 assists. He still has more than three years to go on his current contract (December 2025) with the South American club.
