Manchester United have started talks to sign Barcelona right-back Vanderson, according to Sport.
The Red Devils, Barca and Newcastle United are all interested in the Brazilian, whose performances with AS Monaco in Ligue 1 have caught the eye. United were keen to sign Vanderson last summer but Monaco stuck with the defender.
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is looking to add a new right-back to his side as Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s future remains uncertain. Diogo Dalot has ousted Wan-Bissaka in the United XI which has raised questions over the England defender’s future at the club. Ten Hag is still involved with Vanderson and United are now reportedly looking to complete a deal for the right-back before the start of the January window.
However, they face competition from Barcelona and Newcastle, who are both ready to advance the player. Barcelona sporting director Mateu Alemany sounded out Vanderson’s availability last summer and was told it would cost €60million. Instead, Barcelona signed Arsenal right-back Hector Bellerin but they still admire the Brazilian.
Meanwhile, Newcastle’s eye contest for Kieran Trippier, who arrived at St James’ Park last January. Vanderson has played 11 games this season but it seems his second season at Louis II Stadium will be his last.
The Brazilian joined the Ligue 1 side from Gremio in January for £9.9million.
Vanderson is quick, a real attacking threat and can play at both right-back and right wing.
He has five years left on his current contract with Monaco, so it could cost around €60m.
