In the midst of the latest Arsenal speculation, Danny Murphy has sent a clear message to the Newcastle board regarding Bruno Guimaraes.

Guimares joined Newcastle from Lyon in January for £40 million and signed a contract until 2026, becoming one of the club’s most important players at the time.

He has been so impressive at Newcastle since his arrival that it is believed Newcastle has offered Guimaraes a massive pay increase that would take him to around £200,000 per week and extend his contract by two years.

Rumours have circulated in the media in recent days that some Premier League rivals are considering a move for the man – and Spanish giants Real Madrid have also been linked.

Despite this, Murphy has urged the Saudi-backed club to do so, telling talkSPORT: ‘Bruno Guimaraes, what a player. Honestly. Fix him up [with a new contract].

‘He has everything.’ He’s tenacious, he’s clever on the ball in dangerous areas, he can see a pass and score.

‘The only thing with him when it comes to how you’re going to set up is whether you play him in a deeper role to get you playing or do you give him more freedom because he can score a goal.’

‘It’s a difficult situation to be in, but he’s been their top signing.’

‘They’ve had other good performances and signings, but he’s been their main man.’
