Liverpool may be willing to consider using African midfielder Naby Keita as part of a proposal to sign AC Milan midfielder Sandro Tonali.
Due to injury issues, Jurgen Klopp’s options in midfield have been significantly limited during the first three months of the season.
Keita is among those who have been sidelined, with the 27-year-old having not played since the Community Shield on July 30.
The Guinea international’s lack of playing time comes at a time when he has less than a year left on his contract at Anfield.
Klopp has previously stated that he wants to keep Keita on the team in the long run, and the player has recently returned to training after a hamstring injury.
Nonetheless, The Express reports that Liverpool may be willing to discuss a Keita exit if they make a move for long-term target Tonali.
To make such a scenario a reality, Keita will most likely need to sign new terms with the Merseyside club.
However, according to an Italian report, Milan is keeping an eye on Keita’s situation in order to potentially sign him on a free transfer.
Tonali, on the other hand, is under contract with the current Serie A champions until the end of 2026-27, which does not bode well for Liverpool.
Since 2020, the Italy international has represented I Rossoneri, making 96 appearances across all competitions.
Milan are likely to demand more than £40 million for one of their key players unless they are forced to sell for financial reasons or the 22-year-old expresses a desire to take on a new challenge.
If Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Keita both leave Liverpool on free transfers in the summer, Liverpool will have space in their squad.
