FC Barcelona met with agent to discuss €35-40m right-back in April – Fabrizio Romano

Barcelona continues to cast a wide net in the hopes that a right-back will fall into it, but their main issue is that they are unable to devote significant resources to their search. The majority of young, promising right-backs are likely eliminated by this.

Jeremie Frimpong of Bayer Leverkusen, who had a fantastic Bundesliga season, is one of the most promising players in Europe. Frimpong has drawn attention throughout Europe as a result of Xabi Alonso’s decision to give him more responsibility on the right side.

Fabrizio Romano told Caught Offside that Barcelona is interested in him but that there have only been preliminary discussions.

Although his agent Lemmert has partnered with the new agency to work on Frimpong’s future, he hasn’t actually changed agents. Although his agent met with representatives from Bayern Munich, Barcelona, and Manchester United in April, nothing has progressed for Cancelo or Dumfries at this time.

Frimpong, according to Romano’s assessment, would consume a sizable portion of Barcelona’s transfer budget, as stated in his Substack column.

“I estimate the asking price to be in the range of £30–35m [€35–40m].”

Romano is only estimating here, but it is difficult to imagine him moving for much less. This kind of fee seems incredibly unlikely unless Barcelona makes one or two significant sales. Given that a number of players are adamant that they will not buckle under pressure and accept a departure, those sales currently appear unlikely.
