According to reports, Ousmane Dembele wants to stay on at Barcelona, and the Blaugrana have extended a new contract to the French international.
Known Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano claims that Ousmane Dembele has a contract offer from Barcelona on the table. The French international has received the Catalan giants’ opening offer. And the player wants to stay at Camp Nou past the summer transfer window; his release clause is worth €50 million.

Since Xavi Hernandez became the manager of Barcelona, Ousmane Dembele has revived his stuttering career. Under previous Barcelona managers, the 25-year-old was ambling around aimlessly. Additionally, his problems with attitude did not help matters. But over the past 18 months, Xavi’s encouraging words have inspired the player.

The French international has emerged as a key player for Barcelona, frequently prevailing by himself. He has also been in excellent form this season, recording 30 appearances and eight goals and seven assists. However, Barcelona is in trouble because it’s unclear what Dembele’s long-term prospects will be.

Dembele is wanted by the Catalan juggernauts to stay at Camp Nou past the summer transfer window. Additionally, recent reports indicated that Barcelona wanted to start talking to him about extending his contract. And they have now delivered their opening offer to the Frenchman, who is a desirable target due to his €50 million release clause.

According to the report, the 25-year-old intends to stay at Camp Nou for the long haul. Additionally, Xavi Hernandez views the player as “untouchable” on his team and will not consider selling him. However, a number of illustrious clubs are interested because Dembele has a release clause of €50 million.

However, Dembele’s position will be a game changer and benefit Barcelona in contract renewal discussions. And in the upcoming months, the two parties should ideally finalise an agreement over a long-term deal. But it’s likely that talks between Barcelona and the French international will go on in the coming weeks.

The Catalan giants want to prevent a repeat of last summer, when Dembele’s contract was approaching expiration. However, Barcelona was able to keep his services because of his dedication to Xavi’s endeavour. It will also be interesting to see if, following the opening offer, an agreement is reached between the two parties.
