Enzo Maresca, Manchester City’s current coach, has been said to be leaving the organisation, therefore the team might be in for another Mikel Arteta scenario.
Arteta left his position as a member of Pep Guardiola’s coaching staff in December of last year to take the manager’s job at Arsenal, according to the Manchester club.
Since then, the Spaniard has coached 179 games for the north London club in various leagues, winning 105 of them.
But now, history may be about to repeat itself as another of City’s coaches has been mentioned in connection with a key position at another English team.
Maresca has a job in Leicester.
Maresca has reportedly surfaced as a prospective candidate to succeed Dean Smith as Leicester City’s manager should the Englishman quit his present role at the King Power Stadium, according to a recent story from The Telegraph.
The article also states that Southampton, a team Leicester will play in the Championship next year, expressed interest in hiring the City coach as their manager early in the current campaign but were unable to get the position.
Even though the Foxes were unable to secure a spot in the Premier League for the upcoming season, the fact that the organisation is reportedly seeking to hire a new permanent manager suggests that they are eager to begin a new era and return to the top flight as soon as possible.
The Italian manager of City’s U23 team between August 2020 and May 2021 won 19 of the 28 games he oversaw. Following that, he had a brief tenure at Parma, where he won just four of the 14 games he presided over.
The 43-year-old has been a member of Guardiola’s senior coaching staff since July 2022; over the previous several years, Arteta and Juanma Lillo left.
The chance to lead Leicester out of the Championship and back into the Premier League would be enticing for Maresca if he wants another go at leading a team as their main man.
In fact, it would be reasonable to presume that Maresca has the capacity to achieve what the Belgian has done given that Vincent Kompany just did the same thing with Burnley and has firsthand knowledge of what it’s like to be managed by Guardiola.
