According to a report from La Porteria, Barcelona and Ilkay Gundogan have completely agreed on a free transfer in the summer and a three-year contract. A deal of €4.5 million net/€9 million gross will be signed by the German.
Gundogan is prepared to wait for Barcelona to resolve their financial situation and get La Liga’s approval of their financial viability plan.
Gundogan was continually torn between the Catalans and Manchester City, who were anxious to resign the player, making it difficult for Barcelona to secure him this summer.
In contrast to Barcelona’s two-year agreement with a further one-year option, they were initially only ready to grant him a one-year extension.
Man City increased their offer to a fixed two-year contract as the player was leaning towards a transfer to Barcelona. The blaugranes recognised this and countered it by offering the 32-year-old a three-year contract that would be very tough to turn down.
Recent allegations that Gundo had struck a contract extension deal were later debunked by his agency, who went on public to clear the record.
“Nothing has been agreed upon with City, or any other club.”
“The current rumours are false. Ilkay is just concerned about winning the Champions League, he said.
Gundogan hasn’t shifted from his stance either, refusing to offer the public even the slightest clue about his future.
Barcelona deal completed? There are clearly ongoing discussions, therefore my future has not yet been resolved. I won’t go into depth now, though. I still haven’t signed anything,” he declared.
Gundogan has been a key player and captain for Man City this year as they have pushed for the treble. In his 31 Premier League games, he has scored eight goals and provided four assists. He also recently had a winning brace in the FA Cup final against Manchester United.
