Fabrizio Romano recently asserted that Barcelona had won the summer transfer battle for young defender Mikayil Faye.
He announced on Twitter that Chelsea and other clubs had been outbid by the La Liga champions for a potential deal.
While the first team at Stamford Bridge needs to be significantly overloaded, it still appears that the Blues are looking to bolster their ranks with young stars for the future after doing so frequently in the previous two transfer windows.
They searched for a number of promising players to add during Todd Boehly’s first season in charge, with the hope that they would soon join the first team.
Carney Chukwuemeka, who was one of the players who will have felt unlucky to not be playing more as last season came to an end, was the standout addition last summer.
Andrey Santos, who failed to obtain a work visa after a sensational international campaign shortly after moving to Stamford Bridge, was signed by them in January.
Chelsea is unable to sign Mikayil Faye.
His abilities have already been brought to the attention of his new manager, Mauricio Pochettino, and his future appears to be bright.
Romano’s famous “here we go” catchphrase makes it clear that the deal is finalised, so they will regretfully not be adding Faye to their ranks.
He declared: “NK Kustosija’s top centre back Mikayil Faye is set to join Barcelona. Deal completed, let’s begin. 2004 birth; associations with Chelsea and BVB.
Faye is viewed as a future top player by Barça. Deal to be signed soon; agreed fee of €5 million plus add-ons.
His skills indicate that he will develop into a very promising left-footed defender, but Chelsea already has one of these if they can hold onto Levi Colwill.
