Journalist Rudy Galetti recently made this comment about the situation on Twitter.
“Joao Cancelo received his first approach from Barcelona, both from the player and the ManCity side,” he said.
The goal of #MCFC is to release him as soon as possible. A new round of discussions will soon be held to continue the conversation.
The Portuguese international defender joined City in 2019 after leaving Juventus in a deal worth an estimated total of £60 million. Since then, he has made 154 appearances for the Citizens in all competitions, contributing 22 assists, nine goals, and three Premier League championships.
It’s not shocking to learn that Cancelo, 28, is unlikely to play for City again, given that it was previously reported that he left the Etihad Stadium in January because he was dissatisfied with his playing time at the time.
Pep Guardiola revealed recently that the defender had to leave the team in January and that they were prepared to sell him to Manchester United.
Given this, it is simple to understand why Galetti asserted that the treble winners are unlikely to obstruct the player’s potential departure during the current summer transfer window.
Given all of this, it would appear that Cancelo will likely bid City a final farewell if Barcelona makes a compelling offer for him this summer.
