According to reports, Barcelona will have the chance to sign Marcel Sabitzer, a 29-year-old midfielder for Bayern Munich who will permanently join Manchester United.
Intermediaries have reportedly offered Barcelona the chance to sign Marcel Sabitzer, according to a report by the Spanish publication SPORT. In the summer transfer window, Bayern Munich will consider offers for the 29-year-old midfielder. Additionally, when his loan agreement expires, he won’t move on to Manchester United permanently.
Since moving from RB Leipzig to Bayern Munich in August 2021, Marcel Sabitzer has seen his career come to a grinding halt. In his first season with the Bavarian giants, the Austrian international hardly made an appearance. And in the January transfer window of this year, he joined Manchester United on loan after a trying first half of the 2022–23 season.
In 18 appearances across all competitions, the 29-year-old contributed three goals and one assist, which helped Manchester United. However, Sabitzer’s future is uncertain now that his loan agreement with Manchester United has expired. And the Red Devils made the decision not to sign him on a long-term deal during the summer transfer window.
Bayern Munich also does not have any plans for the former captain of RB Leipzig. Additionally, the defending Bundesliga champions are open to trade proposals for the versatile midfielder. Barcelona has been given the chance to sign the departing Manchester United star during the summer transfer window, according to middlemen.
Due to his adaptability, Sabitzer can be useful as a holding midfielder. And with Xavi Hernandez considering giving new signing Ilkay Gundogan an offensive role, the 29-year-old can be a contender for the defensive midfield position. Thus, Sergio Busquets may be temporarily replaced by the outcast of Bayern Munich.
If Barcelona accepts the offer to sign the 29-year-old midfielder, that fact is not mentioned in the report. He can, however, be a good choice for the Blaugrana. And given that Franck Kessie’s future at Camp Nou is uncertain, Barcelona should make a summer midfielder acquisition.
Barcelona’s top priority is Marcelo Brozovic, but Al Nassr will give them fierce competition for the Croatian international. And it will be interesting to see if Sabitzer emerges in the upcoming weeks as a rival to Brozovic.
