According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool won’t improve their central defence until Jurgen Klopp finds the ‘right player’ to match his vision.
In 2023, Liverpool will add who?
Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, two signings that Liverpool has confirmed, show how active they have been in the summer transfer market.
According to Football Insider, Southampton’s Romeo Lavia has emerged as another potential addition to Anfield, where Reds manager Klopp is looking to strengthen his midfield.
According to the report, Lavia prefers to sign with Liverpool over any other potential suitors, which include teams like Arsenal, Chelsea, and Barcelona.
It’s interesting to note that Liverpool has also been linked with a bold move for Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde and even contacted the Spanish powerhouses before being turned down, according to 90min.
Real Madrid received approaches from Chelsea, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City as well; however, it’s thought that Valverde is adamantly opposed to leaving the Santiago Bernebau.
Khephren Thuram, a nice midfielder, was mentioned in connection with Liverpool earlier in the transfer window and was even rumoured to have verbally agreed to personal terms with the team, according to FootballTransfers.
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, transfer expert Romano said that midfielders will be prioritised and that Liverpool will only look for a central defender if manager Jurgen Klopp believes they will fit in well at Anfield.
However, Liverpool will only do that if they find the right player, Romano added. This is the plan because they don’t want to invest money in a player who isn’t a player who is 100% their important target. However, right now, it’s all about finishing off the midfielder before turning to the new center-back.
Who is Liverpool looking at for defensive reinforcements?
Even though Liverpool has been linked with a number of defensive targets, midfield reinforcements currently appear to be the focus of their recruitment efforts.
According to The Evening Standard, Brighton & Hove Albion and Manchester City are also interested in signing the England Under-21 international defender from Chelsea. Levi Colwill is one name that keeps coming up in relation to a surprising potential move to Anfield.
Colwill, 20, was quoted by The Times discussing his potential future, saying: “I’ll speak to my family, speak to everyone I need to, and make a decision. To hopefully make it to the next camp, I have to play at the end of the day.
Perr Schuurs of Torino is reportedly a “top target” for Klopp according to Football Insider and could be a less expensive option to some of the well-known names being mentioned this summer as potential newcomers to the Reds backline.
Liverpool also has high regard for Wolfsburg’s Micky van de Ven and Sporting Lisbon’s Goncalo Inacio, both of whom are on the team’s shortlist of candidates.
As the 2023–24 season approaches its start, we will probably learn more about who might sign up on the red half of Merseyside in the coming weeks.
