In order to replace Sergio Busquets, Barcelona is reportedly making a full-court press to sign Inter Milan midfielder Marcelo Brozovic. This is according to a report by Fernando Polo of Mundo Deportivo.
The announcement of the 34-year-old’s transfer to Inter Miami last night came to fruition. His departure leaves a huge void in Barcelona’s midfield, and manager Xavi Hernandez is searching for a star performer to fill that void.
Due to financial concerns, moves for Martin Zubimendi and Joshua Kimmich were considered but rejected. As a result, the La Liga champions have focused on Brozovic as the next best player and are aiming to sign him.
According to the report, Xavi, Mateu Alemany, and Deco are all on the same page and working diligently to sign the Croatian international.
The Saudi Arabian powerhouse Al-Nassr are also interested in signing Brozovic, so Barcelona are up against a challenge in their pursuit of him. They are offering a sizable sum of money to both Inter Milan, who prefer to sell the player to the Asian team, and the player themselves.
The Catalans are attempting to persuade the 30-year-old that he still has much to offer at the highest level and that switching to a minor league now might not be the best course of action.
Furthermore, Xavi wants to make it clear to him that he respects his talent and drive and wants him to take on Busquets’ old responsibilities for the team.
The Blaugrana are hoping to sign Brozovic from Inter Milan and believe that the upcoming week will be crucial for his future. Some reports also claim that they are prepared to pay €15 million for his signing.
